Verified Images and Artworks of Black and Dark-Skinned Figures Labeled as Moors

This MoorOfUS visual ledger gathers artworks, sculptures, prints, and archive records where public institutions use historical labels such as Moor, Maure, Mauresque, Moro, Mohr, or Moorish for Black or dark-skinned figures. The purpose is not to certify anyone's ancestry, nationality, legal status, tribe, descent, or membership. The purpose is to preserve the source trail: what the record says, who holds it, what the image shows, what rights apply, and where caution is required.

Why this archive exists

This archive is a verified source trail, not a claim-certification page. It gives readers a careful way to inspect institution-held records without turning a museum title, former title, or traditional designation into a modern identity claim.

How to read the label Moor

The word Moor has never had one single meaning across all records. Each entry is marked by source type: direct title, former title, traditional designation, institutional description, or related context.

Verification standard

MoorOfUS prioritizes official museum records, public archives, library records, government or civic records, open-access image records, and institutionally maintained collection pages. A social-media repost, unsourced meme, or uncredited image is not enough.

Display rules

Records are shown as source cards by default. Images are not republished unless reuse rights are clear, reviewed, and credited. Link-only records point readers to the official institution record.
